chickens and quails

We have been asked this evening if we would take in a couple of quails from someone who is taking down their aviary. This would be on a permanent basis and as we will obviously look into it further,we was wondering if anyone else out there has kept them together at any time..thanx..Lorie x

I hatched some together. They were fine for about the first 6 weeks, then once much bigger, the chickens started to bully. They plucked all of the back feathers out. I wouldn't advise keeping the 2 together really, unless it was a HUGE enclosure with plenty of space for the quails to get away. This is speaking from my experience only.

in my experience,quails are very dainty and can suffer quite badly in the company of other poultry.

.I even keep mine seperate from my bantams.

I think a definate no no....

I know there is someone who does keep them with bantams, but not sure who now, so tried two males in with my seramas today.....

Not good for the quail.... once the chooks decided they were not dangerous, they tried to defeather them

Cue me crawling round in coop trying to resucue them

No real harm done but decision made
