White fly's in compost bin ?
« on: February 28, 2019, 10:23 »
Hi Folks  :)
AS I've mentioned many times I only have a small veg plot at the side of our bungalow so I only have a single Darlic type compost bin. In past years when I take the lid off there are plenty of ants about (summer months) but for the last 2 months when I've gone to put things in, there has been lots of small white fly's.
Any thoughts. ;)
Keith

Have you put brassica leaves in there ?  They could be white fly that have hatched out from them.

If not, they could be something that has pupated from little larvae that been munching your compost and helping it to break down.  I tend to live and let live with compost bins, so would just leave the lid off for a few days to give them a chance to escape.
