 I am. new allotment gardener having taken over responsibility from a school. My site has been left over grown and neglected , weed city. It is still full of rubbish that needs clearing. So much plastic. However today with help erected a small poly tunnel. After looking at the posts I am wondering how long it will last with high winds. I did get a local blacksmith to make some heavy steel pegs to hammer into the ground, securing its bottom rails.  Progress! I have vowed to rid  it of as much plastic as possible.

Thank-you kind people. I am keen to eliminate plastic from my plot. Does anyone have good suggestion in ways to do this, especially from the pathways. I know grass is one option, but could be high maintenance. Does anyone do something different which they have found successful.... photo where I started from..

We decided on grass paths very early on, and while we had about thirty 8' x 4' beds, the paths took around forty-five minutes to mow and edge, so not a huge outlay of time!

The added benefit of paths, is that you can 'get down' and weed by hand, without stamping all over the soil!

If you can get hold of a battery strimmer, or a hand mower, then keeping the grass down is a doddle really! I like your idea of ridding the place of plastic though!
