Turning the corner
« on: December 21, 2020, 10:23 »
I often think of Munty at this time of the year. He always used to wish everyone a happy winter solstice. Don't know if he's still around or not. Also makes me think of thing that have happened here over the years. Such as romance blossoming via the forum, and attempts by people to start their own allotment websites and poach all John's followers! Happy days!

Anyway, here's to turning the corner of the year, and to the days drawing out again. The country is facing its worst crisis since the war, but we'll always have vegetables – and each other!

All the best.

Lovely post Scribbler, hope you and yours have a peaceful and relaxing Christmas  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I remember all those things, Scribbler.  Some good some... not so good.

This certainly remains the best gardening forum !

Oddly enough I was thinking about Munty today too.  And a lot of others who used to post here but are no longer with us for whatever reason.
Must be the time of year.

I worked out today I've been here for thirteen years!  Nearly there for the gold clock! :D  I remember a lot of the old members who've all faded or 'dropped out'.  I certainly remember Ice (she told me off), Ritchie with his  paper pots, Poultrygeist, Vember and loads more.  I remember the big duck (I think it was) transfer across the country one weekend from the east coast to Wales.

People move on for all sorts of reasons - but I do think forums generally have been hit by Facebook and other social media. They're cleverly designed to hold you - the crack cocaine of the internet. But to get back to the original post, there's a lot of the 'founder members' still about :)

When did the forum actually start? I wasn't in the UK for the beginning?

I'm not 100% myself! I think it was 2005 when I put the forums on - the web site started in 2004

Lovely to read the replies. I was still growing leeks in a cat litter try up until last year. Had to give them a miss though because there is rust in the bed where I grow them. Maybe I'll put them somewhere else next time, as we have more room in the garden since moving up to Yorkshire.

This year has been horrible. All the best for 2021 everyone.
