I'm all ready a chicken keeper, but am due to get 4 chicks next week they are already just over a week old.  I will be keeping them in a big plastic tub in the utility room, been out today and brought supplies ready so excited.  As they will be kept in the utility room where it is quite warm will i still need a heat lamp.

not knowing the temperature . I would say yes for certain at night

we use a heat lamp or electric hen even if they are in the main living room

 (just for a week or two as they are cute and before they get too smelly!)

They do need the extra heat when they are so young.  They can get chilled and die very easily so best to err on the side of caution.
