Apple cake
« on: September 12, 2015, 18:18 »
Used up some allotment dessert apples in a Mary berry "dessert" apple cake and it was fantastic, even though I put too many apples chunks in and it spilt over the top of the cake tin - husband though it was a shop bought!!!!

:D I made this cake yesterday for pudding.  I love it and so do all my family and it keeps for a good couple of days without drying out. It is great when there is a glut of apples.  Highly recommended

It sounds like the one of hers Ive been making since August 1986 when it appeared in Family Circle. Do you melt the butter & slice the apples in the middle between two layers of mixture. Its called American apple cake in my magazine

Yes that sounds like the same recipe.  I've got lots of old Mary Berry recipes from the eighties when she worked for Home Freezer Digest, she may have done the same for Family Circle.

Yes, definitely the one you melt the butter and then put half the mix in and sandwich the apples with the 2nd half on the top.
