The first time
« on: July 01, 2007, 14:27 »
Well my 4 Bantams came last saturday. They are 13 weeks old. They are being kept in a coop with a run attached. After 2 days they were going up the ladder to bed themselves at the same time every night at 830. The question is this. I would like them now to roam round the garden for a couple of hours after I finish work and before they start to roost. As its going to be the first time, will they know where the coop is after I let them out. Im thinking of staying out there for the time they are out to see if they find it. Any tips for the first outing. Thanks so much. By the way I have 2 silver Wyandottes, 1 silkie and 1 Belgium banty that is looks like a dove. Sheas so small any idea what sort she is ?

No... no advice needed, you're doing fine.  I'd stay with them as you sugested, then if need be, you can hurd them in at roosting time  :D

Thanks for your reply Aunt Sally. I let them out, (i was more than a bit nervous !) and they looked so excited. They started running around chirping and stayed fairly close to the coop. After about an hour and a half they started one by one to wander closer to the coop then they slowly went in. Whoopee I felt like something had really been acheived and I thought they were very clever girls. 8)
