Title: Quail eggs
Post by: daisy1990 on October 03, 2010, 19:03
We got our six quail home last night and one has laid us an egg (we are ridiculously excited but now dont know what to do with just one egg!)

My question is, do quail stop laying in winter like hens?

Thanks Daisy

Hi.... one egg will keep in the fridge for about three weeks or more, so save it up and hopefully you will get some more....

Quail do stop laying around october/.november unless you keep a light on them to extend daylight hours to around 16 hours a day....

Depends if you want them to lay all winter.

They shouldnt run out of eggs like chickens do as they dont live half as long a chickens :(

thank you we have had our second egg (therefore two eggs from six quail in 5 days!) we boiled the two and shared them tonight- feeling very full! This is actually better than our three hens who still haven't produced an egg between them!
