Title: 2nd try at Christmas Cake . . . . .
Post by: Kleftiwallah on December 08, 2010, 14:03
My first attempt was scotched by believing the temperatuure in the oven was that set on the dial outside ! ! !  My cake came out like an ebony curling stone.

I went and bought a thermometer, the ones you rest inside on the oven shelf.   The dial on the cooker goes from 100 oC  to 300 oC.  To get the thermometer inside to read the required 140 oC, the dial outside was set at approximately  85 oC ! ! !.   We shall be replacing the cooker in the new year, I'm already composing a letter to the manufacturers.

We have a washing machine, far older than the cooker, carrying out a far more complex set of tasks and doing them without fault..   Cheers and have a Kool Yule Y'all,    Tony.

Just got it out of the oven. . . .and I think we have a winner.  Stuck in the needle (actually a H.M. Gibraltar dockyard welding rod)  to test and see if it is cooked all through
 Looking good.

I left out the treacle (or black Dick as me old Dad called it) as I like a lighter colour.

I'll let it go cold and then start infusing it with a glass or two of brandy (home made apricot brandy).  I'll have difficulty fighting my Mother in Law away.     Cheers,    Tony.

As a consolation the 1st attempt makes a good facsimilie of a bread and butter pudding.  :D  Cheers,   Tony.
