  I hope that it is not a sign of a 'greenfly/aphid' summer.

Wasn`t a cold winter supposed to kill off these pests?

I`ve noticed black ants on the apple and pear blossom. What are they after?
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

Just sprayed a thriving aphid colony on a pot plant from the front porch.
It only takes one survivor to start producing the clones. >:(

Greenfly all over my two overwintered chillies. Incredibly hard beasties to get rid of. Still, chillies on 3rd flush in less than 12 months - fully grown fresh chillies in march , should be red come end of April :-). The greenfly seem to love the flowers, gotta keep squishing!

Try one of those sticky, yellow hanging up fly trap sheets. They work wonders... unless you're a fly.

I think cold winters don't really dent pest numbers that much.  Most are hibernating or overwinter as eggs so are safely tucked up.

Last year we had cold weather until fairly late on then it went suddenly very warm and we didn't really have a spring.  This year has been much more spring like so far - well in the south it has - and aphids are baby poducing machines so every mild spring day means upteem more of the little blighters being born

A flush of pests means the predators will also do well, but ladybirds and such like take longer to build up numbers.

Tis Mother Nature's way to balance these things MoS   I'm going to plant my spuds today.  They have been chitting in the greenhouse under a fleece covering so wondering what I will find when I unwrap them  ::)

Same here in East Devon - no greenfly yet though. Perhaps the ladybirds know something.

Person Ladybirds here having been scampering around for ages. I found them sneaking about around the raspberries a least two weeks ago.

A good summer coming? That'd make a change  8)
