kiwi roots
« on: January 16, 2013, 23:03 »
I know kiwi top growth is very vigorous but how extensive are the root systems?
I want to plant it in the gh border and it will be about 5ft from a grape vine.
It is only going into its 2nd year and I don't know its variety- aldi special.

Thanks

I would imagine the root system could grow to a fair size .The Kiwi can extend its top growth
to 6m+ ,depending on variety and time ,so the roots would have to be able to sustain this .
 How big is your Greenhouse?

Hi Carlmj,
The greenouse is about 12ft by 8ft. I plan to have 1 grape vine at the top end and 1 along 1 side both will be centrally trained as a two tier espalier a height of 3ft and 5ft. The kiwi is going to be in the other side in the corner and trained up wire and along a 6ft wire just under roof level
