"W" clips and my trip to a garden centre.
« on: April 12, 2011, 18:52 »
Went to my favourite garden centre today for a small pot of sweet pea seedlings (99p; would be rude not to!) and some crop-headed bolts to help me fix up some wires for my first-ever greenhouse.

Happened to pass a display aluminium-framed polycarbonate-glazed greenhouse and couldn't help noticing how the "W" clips seemed to have been fitted a bit differently from the ones I fitted to mine...................

All I can say in  my defence is that the instructions had no pictures or detailed instructions on how to fit the clips and apart from one breakage about a month ago (which I put down to a severely flawed piece of glass) it has stood up well to everything that autumn and winter threw at it!

Probably best just to post this very short but helpful video clip in the hope I'm not the only dope out here:

Yep, been there, done that and very near lost an eye figuring out how to fit the darned things.  :D

I found that vid ...........twas the only reason I knew which way round they went when I fitted my glass  ;)

and they are a beggar to fit and I had sore fingers and thumbs for days :(

Think I know what I'll be trying to find time for in the next couple of days (hopefully this will produce a downpour of rain of biblical proportions!)

Hopefully my rubber-covered pliers will save my fingers, but not sure if anything can save my self-esteem (actually the worst thing is trying to find room to insert the clips for the pieces of glass which are just that teensy-weensy bit bigger than 610X610mm!)

On some panes I got the clips in on one side and then had to lever the glass over a bit with a screwdriver to get the other clips in.......all a bit scary  but I survived :D

No rain, job done (all 150 or so of them; relatively easy with the glass already in exactly the right positions!)

Will await the next gale with interest; it had better be worth the trouble!

Thanks Mum!  :)

(That's not what my neighbour said when I felt the need to explain what I was doing up a ladder poked through the opening vent; she's probably still laughing now!)
