Bokashi bran
« on: May 07, 2012, 07:25 »
Has anybody got any experience on using bokashi bran with your chickens? I use bokashi as a form of composting fresh and cooked food and have just order more bran. When researchin best price a couple of the websites mentioned its use as an additive to chicken food, one of them sells layers mash mixed with the bran (4%)

Hi - I've used it (got it from Omlet) for the last 5 weeks.

I did do a lot of research at the time (can't remember most of it) but I bought some (from Omlet) so must have been impressed!

I sprinkle a little in with their pellets each morning, it is supposed to be good for their gut (can't remember how!). Their poops are always well formed (no more squitty ones) and easy to pick out of the hen house in the morning and the house seems (?) to smell a little sweeter.

They like it, they each lay every day, and are healthy and happy.

Think it's supposed to speed up the breakdown of waste matter in the soil too?

When it runs out I will get more.
