Title: hatching eggs

is it a bit to early to buy hatching eggs?
and with the bird flu any safety tips when buying eggs?

I’ve seen some for sale on Preloved and the like, although at the moment I wouldn’t be confident about buying them from someone I didn’t know  :unsure:

At the least, ask if the seller where the adult birds are.  If they are aware of the current regulations they will be quick to reassure you they are housed in roofed runs or explain what they are doing about bio-security.  Anything less than that and I would walk away.

If you go for it, you would have to prepare for the worst and treat them accordingly, so maintain your hand hygiene after handling eggs.  Keep any resultant chicks well away from your existing birds and be super vigilant about hands, the shoes you wear and any equipment you use when moving between chicks and hens.

sounds good advise. when the weather warms up a touch i will get some eggs. got a place for new chicks all safe and closed in.
trying out the inc. at this moment  :D
