Don't know if it's any help for next season, but I grabbed a handful of the polleny stuff and shoved a bit in the gap at each point where the leaves meet the stem on each plant (I don't get out much   ); each plant produced a couple of usable cobs which weren't gappy at all.  I only had about 20 plants, though.

Actually, I don't even know if that's good or not    but I was impressed!  You can tell I'm new, can't you...

Sounds good to me, just another form of assisted pollination.

Shouldn't think you'd need to assist your plants Mel, in the Rhonnda, lovelly soil there im told. Used to be an allotment spot on Radio 2 from a chap there

The soil is lovely.  really rich and black, holds water well, but drains well too, if that makes sense.  The radio 2 plot is just a couple of miles away.

my pleasure hermon!
I space my sweetcorn plants evenly across my 4ft beds in a block 4 plants wide by usually 4 to 6 along the bed depending on how many plants I've ended up with.
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

Wish my sweetcorn was ok...the rain became a gale, and the sweetcorn and beans have been destroyed...sob

Still I must be positive, somehow the tomatoes and runner beans and all the brassicas survived the hideous wind. There is always next year

Enjoy your sweetcorn, make some relish and have a good time on the lottie or pottie  :D
