Tomato Chutney
« on: May 04, 2009, 13:49 »
Has anyone got a really nice recipe for tomato chutney?

I have found several, some have apples and sultanas in them but we don't like the sweetness.  Like something with a bit of a kick.

I find adding apples helps the set - if you use bramley windfalls, it's not much extra sweetness!  For the rest, spice to taste (possibly add a little celery or something for body to the flavour), add some vinegar and boil it up.

There's some tomato chutney recipes on the Recipes section of the site, don't know if you've looked there yet?

I'm eating this great one at the minute, (bought unfortunately).  Ingredients are - spicy tom and caramelised onion: tomato, sugar, onion, spirit vinegar, water, tomato puree, maize starch, salt, sunflower oil, garlic paste, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds, black onion seeds, brown mustard seeds, citric acid.

If you manage to make something great out of these ingredients, let us know  ;)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I've got one that I did at Indian cookery lessons that I can dig out for you. It's a fresh chutney and not one for saving but eating straight away. The kind I prefer  :tongue2:

Just registered this post, CQ  ::)

If you see this thread and still have the recipe, that would be fab (in anticipation of my tomato plants doing something  :D )
