Danger Mice strike again
« on: February 27, 2009, 16:48 »
Just checked my seed potatoes - in potting shed -- nice and light and consistently cool and noticed some thing had been around nibbling one or two of them. Not much damage and scars have started to heal over so nothing lost and traps now in place but this has not happened before. So keep checking them chitters and watch out for them critters

Longer days are bringing the mice out and they'll eat anything. I found a forgotten towel all chewed up.

Ive had the same problem. Not sure whether to throw the damaged ones away, or keep them for planting.

The damage to mine was not extensive - slight damage spread across several potatoes - oddly they prefer some varieties and ignored others. As the chits have survived I am still intending on planting them all out in due time. Scars have dried out and no rot evident so cant see any problem.

Someone on the plot site was complaining that many broad beans had been eaten - the green leafy tops (about 2" tall) were intact but the bean seed had been eaten.

Mice?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
