Bee Keeping question please help
« on: March 28, 2011, 16:23 »
Ok looking into Bee Keeping and have found this on the dreaded ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120698510734&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Stupid question but asking it anyway! Is this hive capable of housing bees and them producing honey and wax? I have looked at a couple of sites listed on here but found them to annoying as I can't find the info I am looking for. Sorry but I am one of those people who goes to a site and if the layout is complicated I look for another one!

Many thanks in advance Nicky

Just to make sure you understand the nuc is what bees are supplied in when you buy them some are better than others and can be used to keep the bees in for a while but eventually you will need a proper hive. There are quite a few different hive types to choose from nowadays, and lots that you can make yourself :)

You might want to have a look on this website for inspiration www.biobees.com/ the top bar hive looks quite easy to make.  Click on the BBC Life in a cottage garden with Carol Klein link.

Here is a link to download free instructions for making a top bar hive www.lulu.com/product/ebook/how-to-build-a-top-bar-hive/6288193

Good luck, think that will be my next project when I have got my hens totally settled.  8)

Hi

Sister keeps bee's, she reckons these monks are quite cheap for hives & know their stuff.

May find some info on their site ?
