What / how do you recommend the best way to get a nice tight rolled log though??

Should you use a it of sticky tape?

They don't need to be too tight and yes a smal piece of sellotape or masking tape will hold them together.

Tie with string as sticky tape smells vile when it burns 

We kept warm for a whole winter once with these fake logs (Loads of them of course, not just the same ones  )

Keep them dry then, as they smoke really badly and smell vile otherwise
