i remember when i was a lad ,we used to go for long walks mooching scrumping etc .and i always liked to go to swallow on the laceby to caistor road just outside grimsby, i walked down theier with my bro's n sisters and we always counted the moles and rooks that hung on the barbed wire along the road to the quarry in the village the mole catcher them days wasa respected chap in the community ( jethro ) he had a hat made form mole skins and really smart it looked .it was shaped similar to a bowler  with a higher brow edge ( so rain runs down me back nor me face ornaments ) as for the trousers i have never seen a real pair  i have a modern green pair  and dang comfy they are in the cold

I am no Soil Scientist but this is the way that I think of it ...

Soil is made up of several components, including ...

Mineral : Inert material from rocks.  Might be sand, clay, gravel, whatever
Humus : Organic material of plant origin.  Including that from manure.
Micro fauna: bacteria, microbes, etc which feed on humus
Worm casts : some of each of the above which has been 'processed' by the worm's gut
[/list] As such, worm casts are simply superb for the gardener.  The nutrients are in a form highly available to plants, the crumb size is perfect for root hairs.   There is nothing better in my book.
