I know it's a good fertiliser. Do i get it in seed? When do i plant it, and how much?!

(Hoping to have an allotment plot (half) by next spring if not it will be two beds 6x1.5 meters probably + the allotment if we mange to get one)

if you are thinking of using it for green manure it would have been sown already for digging in over winter . not a plant id suggest using as it can be very invasive as it is a prerrenial weed
still alive /............

I read somewhere you could cut it and put it in between potato rows. Or add the leaves to water for liquid fert.
So if i do this when to plant?

Agree with Munty not a plant to grow from seed it will cover your plot quick.

Get a couple of plants and grow thenm in a spare bed cut down the leaves every so often and put on the compost heap. You really need the sterile variety Bocking 14
Blessed Be
Celtic Eagle

Everything grows green for a Celt

Mostly organic 'cept weedkiller and slugs

No garden should be without comfrey.  See http://www.allotment-garden.org/vegetables_and_herbs/Comfrey_The_Wonder_Plant.php

Make a permanent bed & get Bocking 14 as mentioned above.  Never rotovate or make any attempt to dig it up since that is when it becomes invasive.

Some people at our allotments grow comfrey. They say it must be cut and dug in before it flowers.
Lynne.

So much to do, but so little time.

Bocking 14 is a semi-sterile hybrid.  Or were you describing me in the above?

Comfrey hybrids were introduced from Russia by Henry Doubleday who wanted to use the gummy sap to win a Royal Mail contract for postage stamp adhesive.  Further hybrids were developed at Bocking by Laurence Hills, founder of HDRA.

You will want to use your comfrey so much that you won't give it a chance to flower anyway!

i am going to get some Comfry from the plot holder over the way from me as far as i can remember you divide it like Hostas :?   I think.

Not sure when the best time is,  but i would reckon as it is a weed it can be divided any time and stand a good chance of coming up trumps.

cheers

leave it to die off and split it in early spring. you could take a few root cuttings when you split it and pot em up for a few months,if anyone wants a few roots in the spring let me know.
feed the soil not the plants
organicish
