New gardener needs Polytunnel advice.
« on: March 17, 2019, 09:18 »
Recently bought this polytunnel via Amazon :https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MSVMD7C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which lasted less than 3 days.
Buying a polytunnel is a bout of a minefield and my Wife and I would appreciate some advice as we don`t have money to throw away.
Looking for a 4 metre polytunnel which is going to withstand strong winds! We would also prefer a clear rather than a green cover but this is not essential. Looking at a budget around £ 200 - 300 but can be flexible if the PT is sturdy.
Would very much appreciate any help or advice!!
                            Kind regards. :)

Have a look at Northern Polytunnels allotment models. Still need a bit of DIY for doors etc. but the lowest priced 'proper' polytunnels I've seen.

Many thanks for the speedy and helpful reply.
I will check them out. It is my wife who is the gardener and is adamant it must be 4M long.
Again, many thanks.

Their web site has a sales/enquiries phone number , could be useful to speak to someone.
There are web sites that show how to make your own , one uses blue plastic tubing that is used in conjunction with scaffold bars. Have a look on Youtube.
we also rescue rabbits and guinea pigs, grow own veg

I have two tunnels both of which I got on ebay, even with the added extras (new cover on one)  I bought to get them up and running came in at less than £300. Had one of them for about 5 years now with the original cover 10m x 3m - total cost about £150. Definitely worth a look. :D

Be wary of the cheaper tunnels that have the green cover with the woven reinforcement. I found they tend to cause plants to bolt. I recovered mine after a couple of years in a commercial style clear ( well, very mildly green coloured) polythene and the difference was instant and amazing.
Also, make sure you have good ventilation as they get very humid which can cause you problems. I put a mesh covered ‘window’ at either end when I recovered the tunnel and again, the difference was tremendous.
