  :)
I know there is one or two out there with deep product knowledge hence--
I`m considering an Al-ko 350 but i`m puzzled as to how they get the horizontal output drive from what appears to be a rotary mower engine?, or have I got this all wrong??
Also are the tines likely to spin very fast as there is no obvious gearing down that you would get from a vee-belt side drive. -otherwise appears neat and not too heavy-any user/tech. advice appreciated-thanks

It is called a worm reduction drive.  The 'worm' or rotating thread is on the vertical shaft and the pinion giving horizontal drive meshes with the worm.  this form of gear box gives a large reductiion in speed and an increase in 'torque' so the tines will rotate slowley with the power to penitrate the soil.
I'm queen of my own compost heap and I'm getting used to the smell.
