I might buy some stocks like these...

I know naff all about growing flowers though. They don't come til August, hence I'm wondering, will these grow very fast and flower this autumn, or will they not flower til next year?

Thanks

john ,

biennial means they live only 2 years - first year to set up leaves, second year to flower and set seed. Then they die. If started early enough in good conditions, a biennial can flower the first year but its unlikely you'll stretch its life to 2 yrs.

Also there are annual and biennial stocks nowadays available. What you are sowing now is hardly likely to flower this year though.

hi yummy you are buying plants not seeds,so you will plant them now they will overwinter and flower in spring/ early summer, you could buy seeds now plant them and save yourself lots of money
and have enough seeds to do the same next year.
good luck  john

With the seeds, would I sow them direct? Or have to keep potting on etc? Sow direct is fine (apart from the accidentally hoeing to death possibility) but the potting on etc is a bit of a pain as I have no greenhouse, no conservatory and no space to keep em all. That is why I am looking at plug plants.

hi think you should be able to so them direct , or put them in pots and bury the pots in the ground [level with soil] then when they are big enough say in september plant them in there permanant position, that should stop you digging them up by mistake

ok thanks. Will try that then. If I manage to kill em (I like allotments but I'm not very good at it    ) I will get some annual plugs next year.
