« on: May 04, 2010, 16:12 »
Hi All.

Bought another rotovator - it's a bit tatty paint wise.
Would like some advice on which type of paint to use to tart it up a bit !  :D

Depends on whether you are applying by brush.
I rather like those Humbrol enamel paints, but then again, Smoothrite isn't bad at all.

It'll be by brush I'm afraid - so is it Smoothrite then ?

Either, or. Both can be applied by brush.
I guess that smoothrite is easier to get hold of these days. :)

More to the point, whatcha buy, machine-wise? ???

Hi G !
You helped me with my other Rotty - it got knicked !

Its a 'Templar Tiller 300' with a B&S 3Hp with a potatoe plough .
It was spares or repair - had it running within 2 minutes of getting  it home.  :D
It still needs an oil change though.
It is Blue chassis with a Bronze starter cover/blackish engine.

Off out to play snooker now - see ya later on.

Next question :

Would I need to use black heat resistant paint for the engine or can I just wire-brush the fins and block and leave it au-naturel ?

When I used to do mowers up for re-sale, I used to strip the engines down, gunk, wash and then wire brush. Blow any arisings off with an air gun, and then spray with Black or silver heat resistant. They did always look nice. :)

Smooth hammerite, applied by hand after a good wire brushing. Or Rustoleum, its a metal paint which you can paint or spray directly onto rusted metal, it seals in the rust and prevents further corrosion - very good.

Hi H,

Gone for Hammerite Smooth for now, just to cover the rust up untill I can give it my full attention later on.

Rubbing down properly is very difficult once hammerite has been applied.
