Thank you. I have been pleasantly surprised at what a lovely nature Sevi has, he really looks after his ladies, always telling them to hurry up and come see when he finds something tasty, then stands back, sits with them in the nest box, though not as much now they have the hang of laying. They are all looking better every day and I hope we will have a smart trio soon. They are a rare breed even here in their native  Bulgaria, so they and their chicks are quite important. Still love my backyard hens though (as does Sevi) :D

Here you go. http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=109168.0

The yellow one is from one of the first little eggs from my youngsters which got in with the Shumen eggs which are small and white. All five lay different shades of brown and this one was nearly white.

What lovely healthy looking birds joolz68.  The only problem with autumn/winter is that I find I have less time to observe my birds with the days being so short.   :(

Do they go to roost at 5pm till 8am in winter when its dark? seems a long night for them if so

They will roost longer than that on the shortest days.  Mine are heading for bed at 7pm at the moment and are up and about at 6.30am.  They are obviously using less energy but they do need to be in good condition for the winter.

.

This is a breed I 'invented' a number of years ago. Welsh Black Fowl are now in 7 countries. Bred for a free-range egg and table bird they cope very well in exposed conditions. Lay around 190-210 eggs a year. Very good broodies and an all together easy going breed.

never had Hamburghs before, they are very skittish and flighty but lay a lovely white egg. Big Emily puts them in their place though
