Can I ferment bottled cherries?

(1/1)

coldandwindy:
I've been given a big bottle of Polish Sour Cherries. A commercial product, not home made, I think they're meant to be for pie filling.
I'm wondering if there'd be anything in there that would kill yeast?
What do you think?

(Can post ingredients, they're in English but just testing the water since not sure if this bit of the forum is frequented any more! :D )

Blewit:
Being sour cherries they might not be too pleasant fermented but they'd more than likely make superb liqueur steeped in vodka for a month or so. Might need to add sugar to taste but that can be done as it progresses.
Also after making the spent cherries are fantastic dropped into home made chocolates.

coldandwindy:
Thanks Blewit! What a good idea - hadn't thought of that. Sloe gin is a regular here but have never tried cherries.
Might taste one to see what they mean by "sour". They're in sugar syrup.
