did you see on gardeners world two weeks ago a man from Wales putting his plants in black polypropylene obviously making holes in the poly sheeting prior to planting

and I have to say this method looked pretty good keeping  the weeds at bay and using this type of plastic means that its breathable so allowing water to pass through the poly sheeting

but  not sure  how to keep slugs at bay using the poly sheeting should one put the slug pellets under the sheeting prior to planting or in slug traps on the surface of the sheeting after planting

what's your thoughts on this method of planting

I do both under my brassica netting  ;)
The weed control fabric means I don't have to keep removing the netting to weed around the cabbages, swede and calabrese. I also use it for my leeks and onions/shallots.

You can carry on using the stuff for years so it is well worth the money it costs IMO.

I use it for my squash & courgette bed, must admit I don't bother about the slugs, but this is the first year I've bought slug pellets, but still hardly used them, I've actually forgotten the reason why I bought them. I did put somearound some new delphiniums I put in

Mark out where you want to plant, (I use white emulsion), then cut the cross with a "hot knife", I use my soldering iron, this stops the woven plastic from unraveling, (usually, lol)

A blowtorch or weed-wand work pretty well too.
