Is there an easy way to tell if a hen is laying or not?  Like look at her vent or something like that?

all my girls squat if you go to pick them up and  they didnt do that untill they were laying, (or just before) I do know though that some people have chooks that never squat and are laying so probably not a hard and fast rule, also big red combs and wattles are a good sign
