It needs re-potting methinks but do I need to buy specific houseplant compost or can I use some leftover John Innes No. 2 which seems to have some compost in it other than being just soil.

As it's a long-term plant, I'd go for John Innes.

As it is a houseplant, I’d disagree and say definitely don’t use John Innes.  It really isn’t designed for indoor plants and Parlour palms need an airier lighter mix.

The Westland houseplant compost is not bad.  I’ve got some of that for general houseplants that don’t need anything special.
