rhubarb

Afternoon all!

I need to move my three rhubarb plants onto my second plot.
I planted them too close to each other trying to cram as much is as possible.
Now I have more room I thought I would spread them out a bit.

They are two years old. I know I will need to wait till autumn. Do I take all the stalks off them first?
Whats the best way t do it?

Let the stalks die back.  Probably late September early October. The stalks will lay on the ground. 
Dig up the heart, if its bigger than your spade then split it.  Try to get root and some eyes on each piece.
Replant at 24" spaceing.
The crown should be 1 inch below the surface.
Fill the hole with water before planting.
Put manure at the bottom of the hole.
Tilt the crown so water will run off of it.
Cover it with manure.
Do this every 4 or 5 years.

If you have 3 too close when you dig up in autumn plant 3 separate rhubarbs. They are probably not too big requiring spliting just yet.
You will not be able to harvest them next year... so you could move 2 and leave 1 in situ and move the last one next year.
