Well I have been away for over a week so haven't been to the allotment for a while. I made it tonight to check how things were going and found that the cucumbers have gone mental and have thrown out some whoppers! From 6 plants, grown outdoors, on my first year attempting cucumbers, and on my first year of allotmenteering, I've got 20 MASSIVE cucumbers (so far).
I know I'm boasting but I don't care as I am so so pleased!
The plants are still growing strong and there looks to be many more fruit to come.
....now the only problem I have is what to do with so many cucumbers! :-D

I seem to have given away all the plants that have normal shaped cucs on them, including the white ones, and left myself with crystal lemon cucumbers only
Not the same feeling of success somehow....
... well done Beetie :D :D :D

Well done Beetie and Fairy Plotmother :D
I am pleased with mine this year. I think the key for me is grafted in the greenhouse and the hot house wall that stores all the suns heat every afternoon for the outdoor cukes ;)

I can manage 2:
1) Outdoor Marketmore - great crop this year from just one plant
2) GH Passandra - a new personal best for just about keeping the two plants alive (but no cukes!)

Do outdoor ridged cucumbers taste similar to the ones we grow in get in supermarkets (which I am guessing are greenhouse grown?). I love cucumber so am tempted....
-
I think they taste as good, but the skin is much tougher so I peel first.

Well dome Beetie. But what are you gonna do with 20 cucumbers  ???

I've grown 'Wautoma' cukes. Seeds were from Real Seed Co.

I don't know... I have got further than feeling pleased at the minute. I'll have a think when I calm down. :-)

Well done Beetie and Fairy Plotmother :)
I'd also like to add that we've done really well with cucumbers this year also. We've got 11 from the greenhouse off 2 plants. Furthermore we've got so many from the Marketmore's at the allotment that I've lost count. I've brought 2 in to work this morning for a colleague as we can't keep up. :D
Sorry MoS and JayG :tongue2:
