My OH is rather fond of shop bought butter beans, So I wondered what the pulse used is and the basis of the sauce, any body got any ideas.

Try doing a google for lima beans, which is one of their other names. Sounds like they need better weather than we get here ie as in Italy and Greece. I think Taste of Italy do them.
