That's exactly what i was thinking AS. One of my neighbours has a steel tubular frame made up as goal posts, and he's welded eyelets along the 'cross bar' at 8" intervals. then he just threads his canes through these and pokes them in the ground. Ingenious I thought. ;) :)

My dad just tied bean string on to his frame each year - it's cheaper than canes

That's enough for a bean frame and a fruit cage!. You can get 45Deg joints for that stuff can't you? Get on freecycle for some netting.

If you're really stuck for what to do with it, I could collect them off you on Monday. :tongue2:

Seriously, it would do nicely for a fruit cage or a bean frame or rasberry/blackberry support, or a frame to support netting/fleece over brassicas.
If your site is windy you could use it to support plastic fencing as a windbreak, all sorts of uses really.  ;)
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Try a plumbers outlet - trade counter will be cheaper.... you could invest in a hand-held pipe-cutter while you are there... not too dear and you could sell it on afterwards... if not a hack-saw would do the job.

I'm envious. I have enough galvanised steel pipe to put up a traditional apex bean frame (my father used it for about 40 years!) but I cold easily put some extra metal tubing to good use with a few lenghts of nylon string or old washing-line.
