Title: Combs
Post by: ali2 on September 03, 2010, 08:50
Do chickens get their combs first before they start laying/? Reason I'm asking as we have two  new Wyandottes that are pol but have no combs yet ...today we have one extra egg but am certain they are not ready for laying  ...they tend to run off still as we approach so don't know if they would crouch or not.

What colour are silver laced wyandottes eggs usually ?

Wyandottes have a rosecomb, not a single comb, so it will remain much smaller and flatter to the face.

A wyandotte lays a cream to tinted egg.

Also look at how red their comb and face are, if they are pale, then they aren't laying, if they are bright red then they are laying
