How long should we leave a new concrete floor to dry before laying slate slabs.
Anyone have any thoughts. Its inside.

Depends on such a lot ....
How deep and what mix ? 4-5 Weeks wouldn't be unreasonable.

when you say new floor,
has it just been topped (sharp sand) or is it a solid slab?
if its been topped can tile anywhere from a week.
i used to be a tiler (and still do bits) but never done much with real stone but
use a powdered adhesive, dont have it to wet and only mix a small ammount at one time, they take some laying compared to ceramic porcelane etc.
also use a solid bed trowel or a high build (my high build has a 20mm wide x 10mm high rounded notch)

im a plasterer and if the floor space has been screeded with a sand and cement screed it takes 28 days for the floor screed to cure.

I go along with Dave. When we had our new basement floor poured, we couldn't even put boxes down there for 3 weeks or they'd leave permanent impressions.

there is a adhesive made my bal for green floors so to a point that statement is wrong.
i was trained by a bal rep, along with the 5 staff i had.
like i said tiling can be done from a week, leaving it longer will allow you to use a cheaper adhesive.

as you will see, they say with green screed adhesive you can tile from 24 hours of the floor being laid.

We did wonder about that too. The Bal stuff is probably excellent but OH is a bit set in his ways and as he can get on with rendering the out- side we are going to let it dry the old fashioned way. :lol: He only did the screed yesterday so the house is full of condensation.
The slate is ordered for next week so I can get on with putting a coat of sealer on that while we're waiting for the floor to dry.
As long as i can see progress i dont fret too much. :)

its a polymer adhesive, a despersant so the reaction causes the drying rather than the air.
plaster is the opposite and requires the air as you know
