A festive slow cooker recipe request
« on: November 16, 2011, 11:50 »
Does anyone have a recipe for making a Christmas pudding in a slow cooker.  It's "stir Sunday" this weekend and I would like to try making one in the slow cooker because it saves the kitchen from turning into a sauna.

No idea about using a slow cooker for  your pud but agree about the sauna ::)

Mines simmering at the moment and all the kitchen windows are open plus the front door   :) Only another 7hours to go  :D

Debz, I assume you have a recipe already for your favourite ingredients and quantities thereof? There are a number of reputable websites with slow cooker version of the recipe such as THIS one from Delia Online which will give you the slow cooking method.

An alternative suggestion would be, will the oven be available? If so, you could cook it in there.

I've done mine in the slow cooker before I think I just did it on high overnight. When I used to make lots as gifts I used to put them in large roasting trays filled with boiling water then made a tent of foil & cooked them in the oven for about 8 hours. they always turned out ok & some even lasted til the next year.

Argyllie, I have never made one before and just fancied trying it.  I had heard that your kitchen gets really steamy and didn't like that idea much though.

Oh I see. Well perhaps you could try that Delia recipe then, if you fancy it? :)

If I'm really rushed I have a microwave crimble pudding recipe which is quite nice.  I make it darker by adding a bit more treacle and darker sugar.

Have also made them in the pressure cooker before too, but done properly, my kitchen doesn't steam up much with the conventional method.
