Title: Dig for Victory at the printers!
Post by: John on September 22, 2020, 17:20
My new book, Dig for Victory: Monthly Growing Guides and Commentary, is being printed! I thought it would be nice to share a bit about how it is being produced.

How amazing! I know this has been a project very close to your heart for some time now, and I bet it never gets old seeing the first print run!

I think it’s going to be a fascinating book.

I've been immersed in the period for so long I keep expecting to see a spitfire when I hear an aeroplane overhead!
Despite the computerisation of the process, the files are sent to the printer as high-quality pdfs, it still requires skill, knowledge and a trained eye to produce a top quality print. My other books have mainly been more information than presentation but this one is something I hope people will want to keep on the shelf for years to come and show their friends.
It's on a heavy paper and after printing the paper is coated to enhance and preserve the print.
Yes, it really felt amazing to see it whizzing out of the machine.

One was doing a flyover hospitals yesterday - didn't see/hear it this time round, but we do occasionally have the Battle of Britain memorial flight overhead. Such a distinctive engine sound.

I saw 2 spitfires today, John.

We went to the “Battle of Britain” show at Headcorn airdrome today.  Bit cool and windy but we saw some grand old planes.

All we get are training jets from RAF Valley and rescue choppers heading over to Snowdon : (

Such an iconic aircraft. Our first house was built in 1938 and when we did some work, I found a newspaper talking about Britain's new aircraft, the Spitfire. Stupidly I didn't preserve the paper. A fascinating period of history, WW2.

Whilst the military side - the battles - gets the bulk of attention, it's how we coped on the home front that really interests me. The privations and restrictions that people generally accepted - although not always without grumbles and complaint.
