Chicken and Path clear and Stump rot
« on: May 24, 2015, 11:33 »
Hi
I need to spray stump rot on some stubborn weeds in the back garden, the box says to keep animals and children away until the spray has dried, but what about chickens. Most of the weeds I am spraying aren't one they would eat, hence why they are there lol, but it could get onto other weeds they may eat.  Would they have to be locked away until the weeds have died and been dug up?  Or would they be ok to go back out the next day.
Many thanks
11 Chickens (Rhode Rock, Bluebell, Copper Black, Columbine, Coucou, Mystery Hen, Clarance Court, Araucana, brown hen ) , 3 Cats (1 mog, 1 bengal, 1 Bengal x),  2 Little Boys, 1 dog (Golden Retriever) and 1 Husband

If the weedkiller you are using contains an ingredient which is absorbed by the plants and then travels through to the roots, I would keep the chickens in until the weeds have started wilting.

They are unlikely to eat something looking sad like that, but probably best not to chance them taking a peck at something you have just sprayed  :)

When using weedkiller it is always difficult to know the best way to do things. Do be aware that there are weedkillers that can increase the palatability of a weed to some animals even ones they would NOT normally eat.
