I've just tried my first sweetcorn.  This year I grew one of the supersweet varieties, but it's far too sweet and doesn't really taste like proper sweetcorn at all.

Can anyone suggest a good old fashioned variety with a proper sweetcorn flavour?

Also, the sweetcorn didn't grow particularly large or leafy this year, and the cobs, though fully pollinated, are on the smallish side.  I planted them on the slightly shadier end of the plot - would the amount of direct sunlight have a big effect on growth?

I got the F1 sweetcorn from Wilko's , the taste and size is great ... i will be defo growing them again next year .

The F1 Supersweet I have grown have been "dwarf" - which enables them to produce a crop comfortably within the UK Summer - so I think its by design (and possibly for any other varieties bred for "UK Summer" )

Grew Incredible F1 this year for first time and well pleased with yield and taste - half way through first block with second sowing still to ripen fully

both me and plot neighbour grew Incredible, and both had quite a few funny cobs that were half female cobs and half male tassels...really weird :blink: So will try something else next year.

So watching for recommendations
