Runner bean seeds
« on: October 25, 2009, 21:11 »
Due to various issues i have had to dig out all of my runner bean plants. I have frozen/ given away all i can but i still have many left, if i took the seeds out of the remaining ones while they are still green would i be able to plant them next year?

Thanks

Go for the largest beans take them out of the pods, let them dry out preferably on a tray so they don't go mouldy. Keep them frost free and you should be ok

I would be tempted to let them dry in the pods (if it is not too late). Don't know if runner beans have many F1 varieties, but if these are hybrid F1s they will not come true.

edit - just had a check and couldn't find any hybrid runner beans so you can probably ignore my last comment

leave the beans in their pods until they have completely dried and turned black and crispy, just like my wifes yorkshires ,

then remove the beans from the pods and place them on a paper bag, pl;astic bags and jars can cause condensation,

plant out at normal time next yr , good luck

as Peter has said better left in the pod...to dry out then pick 'em and as others haave said choose the largest therefore the strongest to replant next year...store in paper bags...not plastic or glass....

However I picked some earlier than usuall this year..grew two lots..needed the space...picked them earlier than usuall..dried them off on a tray..in the g/house..on paper...great..nay probs...look as good as others.....next year if there is a difference I'll soon tells ya.....
