My friend had some ducks that are 4-5 weeks old and they are crazy, they run around their little coup all together like maniacs.

So do they settle down a bit with age? I was thinking getting me some, but couldn't be arsed is they were that mad all the time, I would get a few more chooks instead...

I think they do settle down a bit. have they got anythign in their run to distract them a bit ??

I'm thinking water in a tray,etc.

But when they get spooked or just want to run away to the horizon, they do follow each other round and round.

Yes they settle down and there are lots of different breeds, some more chilled out than others!

Go for ducks, they are just fab!

Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Graham = 2x Border collie Dogs, 2x Cats, 1x Wife, 2x Kids, 2x Hamsters and now 10x chickens.

They need much the same as chickens, maybe a bit more. I don't think I would ever keep either in the 1m squared that is quoted as the minimum. I have heard that ducks can be kept wiohtout a pond but don't really think that is right, they're DUCKS for heavens sake! Mine have a little pond and take it in turns. They do all fit in at once but if they all flap then none of the water stays in!

mmm thats would mean I could give them the other bottom half of my garden which has a pod in it be it raised. Also means I woul dhave to lift up the block paving.

But shhhhh dont tell OH.

My Ducks had a sandpit/paddling pool the hard ones from Argos to begin with that suited the 3 Call ducks just fine.

Problem was I got more ducks, so dug a pond

Sounds like a plan! Lots of people let their ducks and chickens run together and if you already have a pond you're ready to go.

Baby Patricks and Patricias in spring?
