can i take cuttings of all the plants/shrubs or do some not grow from cuttings?
 and do i take these in july & august?

Tried cutting of different sorts and found I had little success. When I looked a bit more into it I found that some are OK to take cuttings from, some should be from green cuttings others should be semi hard wood, others had close to no chance.

Seems there is no simple rule and each plant has to be considered individually. I think the RHS do a book on propogation, not sure how good/bad it is as I think it says how to do perform a cutting method and not which method is best for which plant. There will be others.
