Hi folks. My outdoor cucumbers are growing well, plenty of flowers and one small cuce so far. My question is should I pinch out the side shoots when they grow beyond a certain length like with squash? Or just leave 'em alone to take over the allotment...
Cheers.

I always just let them get on with it :)

I pinch the young plants out when they have eight leaves. But pinched out or not, they always seem to perform well.

I've got two plants in a large planter - the initial single shoots were trained up some plastic trellis netting, but each one now has 2 or 3 other shoots trailing across the compost and over the edge - I'll probably nip those out if they get near the ground to make life more difficult for the slugs and snails.
So, neither properly trained nor a master plan for pinching out ::) (no cukes yet either, but they have put on a spurt in the recent warm weather and are now flowering.) ;)

Thanks folks, will let them get on with it for the time being then. Watching and waiting for the next cuce..!
