Fiddlehead ferns
« on: May 15, 2011, 00:05 »
the young shoots of fiddlehead ferns are a great delicacy in Japan and North America. They are really delicious and impossible to buy in the UK so I thought I would give them a try on the plot. Does/has anyone grown them and have any tips about cultivating them and where I could obtain them ?

For preparation: http://veganyumyum.com/2007/05/fiddlehead-ferns/

For cultivation: http://www.gardenguides.com/74857-growing-fiddlehead-ferns.html

You've missed the season for this year, and it might take a few years before yours reach harvestable size. Good luck.

I don't mind it taking a while, I'm growing asparagus and artichokes from seed for our perennial bed and thought fiddleheads might go nicely with them. It's a long-term project.

Thanks for the link, I will investigate
