2 week compost method- anyone tried it?
« on: May 14, 2011, 11:06 »
We took over our allotment in August and have used up all the compost from the bins.

We have a fair amount of paper and cardboardand thought about shredding this and adding to bins along with chopped up green growth from the weeds/ rhubarb leaves, a bit of topsoil and possibly some wee/ bokashi bran/6X

If we can get enough for a decent sized heap and turn it daily, will we have useable stuff for mulching around veg?

hi greentig3r,

I wouldn't have thought so, but it could be quite good stuff to dig into a trench and use for your beans - they'd love it.

It's good to make compost, but it will take some time to decompose even with accelerators such as grass, fertilizer, men's wee.  I rip up every box that groceries come in and put it in the compost bin.  It takes a good three months for it to rot, and that's adding grass and hen poo.  It would be wonderful to line though, if you have a mind to. ;)
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Thanks for the advice. We're hoping to do lots of peas and beans so we've got a store for winter, so will try the trench idea.

While I was reading up I found a superb link to a compost calculator,
