Spent mushroom compost on my potato beds
« on: January 25, 2022, 21:38 »
Been gifted a ton of heat treated spent mushroom compost which I知 thinking of using on my potato beds would you
1/ spread on top and leave as a mulch
2/ spread on top and dig in
3/ fill the rows and plant into

Thanks for all advice

I'd probably go for option 4 - don't use it on the spud beds. It's quite alkaline, which will risk causing the condition scab on the surface of the spuds. They will still be edible, just look scabby.

But if you do use it for potatoes, I'd probably do option 1. Least effort!

If you chose to use it for something like courgettes instead, I'd do option 3 - add it to the planting hole.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
