I am trying some Celeriac for the first time this year , and take it I should treat it like a root no fresh compost etc.
I hope this is not too obvious a question , but I have started it off in a large pot and will pot on before final planting ,   this is not what I usually associate with root crops , usually sow direct and thin .

From the RHS
Celeriac is a moisture-loving plant that needs fertile, organic rich, moisture retentive soil and prefers full sun. Keep the soil constantly moist – it should never be allowed to dry out. Water before the onset of drought; mulching helps, too. Keep the ground weed free.

Rest of the information is here - they are on my list of right fiddly things to grow. You have let yourself in for an experience I may tell you but whatever - if you follow the instructions and we get a nice summer you will be well rewarded.

When my allotment flooded in that awful year of 2012, the only thing that survived was the celeriac!
Like Christine says, its a bog plant.

The best celeriac I grew last year was the ones I planted in the bog garden.  I think they need a long growing season, so helps if you have planted early.

The longer their growing season the better crop you get. I start my seeds in February, then pot them into small paper pots.

They have been in the ground for several weeks.
They need  lots of water and feeding.

I have attached a piccie of last years crop.

Never had any success with this crop until I grew 'Ilona' (as recommended on here - sorry, can't remember by who) which gave me some fantastic roots.

Thanks all, it seems I will have to concentrate on the watering as my land is very light .

Was thinking of growing celeriac but looks like I've left it too late for this year.  :(

My celeriacs were always fairly small until last year, when I and the other gardeners bought a lorry load of compost from the recycling centre. I had some really big celeriacs last year, all grown from plants bought at the local market.
