Hemcore
« on: May 02, 2009, 15:23 »
Trying not to hijack someone else's thread here but I saw someone refer to hemcore - is that suitable for use on the floor of a run? The girls, Elsie, Norah and Maud, just arrived today in their new home and they have straw at the moment (they will be allowed to free range in the afternoons when they get used to their new home) but wanted something easy to poo pick! Hemcore sound great but I want to make sure I am not lining the run with bedding! Also, if used for run floor, how often would it need changing? Thanks!

I use hemcore as bedding in the house for my ducks and bark chips in the run.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

We just did our first month's deep cleaning of the run and house and replaced the wood chips with Easibed which is like Hemcore.  Our run is covererd.  The hens didn't know what to make of it.  I'll let you know how it turns out.
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Many thanks all as always for the helpful comments. I have some bark to go down for the moment but bearing in mind what someone said about spores and respiratory problems, I am interested in alternatives.
