Wind Damage
« on: August 01, 2006, 19:55 »
Just come back from the plot, thought I'd better go and batten down the hatches as there's a strong wind about ( it nearly blew down the gazebo in the garden this afternoon )....but sadly, I was tooo late. One row of my runners are flattened, the toms are alomost the same, and its folded over my dwarf beans. It's been a bit of a week for me !!
However, in true Tom & Barbara style, I rebuilt and ( hopefully ) saved as much as I could, and had a delicious helping of runners with my dinner, so it's not all doom and gloom.
....and I picked another 8 courgettes, cos I haven't eaten enough of them over the past 3 weeks ( anyone detect a note of sarcasm ? )

So let me get this straight..
May was cold and didn't stop raining, felt like winter.
July went bang into sahara mode
August starts with winter gales

Noce to have predictable weather :)

Similar scenario to you novice, but our had not toppled over completely.  A fellow two plots dow has lost the middle section and someone over the back lost the roof to their shed - which managed to miss everyones crops.
A couple of my sweetcorn were at 45 degrees and needed staking.

The good news is that the winds have cooled things down and given us steady rain over last night and into today so far - small mercies.
